Clogged Drains
Have you ever flushed a toilet and had it overflow onto the floor, take a shower in a foot of standing water, or worse yet, have what you flush down the toilet come up another drain? Here's a tip. Before you make up your mind to go spend on any unproven drain-clearing/cleaning methods on a plugged drain, the tub's pop-up stopper is opening fully and is free of hair and debris.

Water Heaters
How they Work
The heating of water in your water heater causes calcium carbonate to precipitate out and settle to the bottom of the tank. Also contributing to sediment buildup are any particulates that may be in your water supply like sand. Sediment is usually more of a problem in areas with very hard water Whenever you turn on a water faucet, heated water can be drawn from the top of the tank and usually is replaced by cold water that is carried to the bottom through the dip tube. When the water temperature drops, a thermostat activates the heat source (a burner in a gas model.
Usually common water heaters store heated water in a cylindrical tank. Water heating is typically the third largest energy expense in a home, after space heating and cooling. In addition, a water heater is a relatively expensive appliance, and it operates under very severe conditions (high temperatures, and cycling on and off).

Plumbing Emergencies
1- Gas leaks: When gas (usually smelling) evacuates the building is when the problem strickes. Such gas leaks do not lend themselves to D.I.Y. repair due to their deadly nature in the wrong hands. Once outside the home call in your emergency plumber or Gas Company. You can and under professional guidance attempt to turn off the gas meter at the control valve.
2 - Issue of Frozen Pipes: When water in pipes freeze they expand and may even burst the pipe. Close the main shutoff valve. If the pipe has not split yet, thaw it with hot water bottles from the end of the pipe nearest to the tap. Thawing must be gentle, never with a naked flame, to avoid thermal water expansion that too can split the pipe. As a preventive maintenance make sure your pipes are appropriately insulated against the cold months.
3 - Also Burst Pipes: Your top objective until the emergency plumber arrives on the scene is stop water flowing out of the hole. Locate the main shutoff valve to your house and close it. Turning off the shutoff valve will close the water supply to the fixtures and therefore stop the flood. Next turn on cold water taps to drain quickly pipes from trapped water and steam. After damage controlling the emergency call in your plumber to repair or replace the burst section of the pipe.
4 - Leaky Plumbing Fixtures: You need to switch of the shutoff valve to the leaky fixture. Double-check the fixture's trap for debris, soap scum, and food particles that might obstruct its opening and cause overflowing of the fixture.
5 - Blocked Toilets: Lift the obstruction by means of a plunger or a plumber's snake. If such plumbing tools fail to dislodge the clog, call in your plumber.

Leaking Tank
The moment you notice your tank leaking every time water is flushed out the wax seal then it needs replacing. Take it from us we've been doing this for years. You have to leave this job to plumbing service providers. Usually it begins with disconnecting the water supply, the plumber will loosen all the bolts that attach the W.C to the floor, and then try to put in another wax seal and place the toilet on the screws. Wax ring of bowl is also fundamental if water leaks from the bottom of the W.C subsequent to flushing or when the toilet sways from side to side and loosens the bearing of the wax seal.
Toilet usually have two major components, the tank and the bowl. Tank stores a huge of charge of water to flush out the bowl. So basically the toilet works when you press the handle, the stopper in the bottom of the tank opens and allows the water to quickly drain out and flush the bowl
There is usually a blockage somewhere in the toilet or drain line when water overflows the bowl. When the bathroom sink does not back up, then the blockage is in the toilet or very close to it. Usually the sink is backing up, then the clog is farther along in the drain line. If drains elsewhere in the house are backing up, then the problem is likely to be somewhere in the sewer line.

Drains
Drain services usually involves a rooter-rooter. A good plumber's tool is similar to a conventional drain snake. What that means is a long, metal wire with a claw head attached is threaded through the clogged pipes. Also the crank on the end will extend and rotate the claw which will then spin. This will either break up the clog plaguing the pipe or scrape off any build up on the pipes which restricts the movement of water.

Leaking Pipes
Most people's home’s plumbing system has basically 3 parts. These parts te homeowners should have at least a passing familiarity with so can be able to deal with issues such as leaking pipes in a reasonable manner. When it comes to leaking pipes usually the supply system carries clean water to your home's fixtures like sinks, and toilets. The drain waste system carries used water and waste away into the sewer system. The vent system carries away sewer gases and maintains proper pressure inside the pipes. All rely on pipes to carry out their jobs, so it’s no surprise that a leaking pipe has the potential to be a costly crisis.

Instructions on fixing a broken shower head pipe
Whatevere you do just make sure you have all the basic supplies listed below. These items are very inexpensive.
- Try to make sure the old shower head pipe / arm is removed and you can see into the hole in the wall.
- insert the flat file straight into a hole. Then, with the hammer, tap it into the fitting. Don't be afraid to hit is pretty hard. The idea here is for the tiny metal grooves on the edge of the flat-file to "bite" into the broken section of threaded nipple.
- try to rotate flat file, with pliers, until the old piece comes free.
- Put the metal ring back on. Re-attach the shower head to the other end of the pipe.
- Make sure you did not skip this step. With your face up against your shower wall, with a flashlight, turn the shower on and make sure your repair job is not leaking. Be patient. Stay there for a few minutes. NOTICE: You'll need to temporarily slide the metal ring forward so you can see your connection into the copper fitting. That is what you're checking for leaks.

Preventing Kitchen Drain Clogs
A clogged kitchen drain at times can be so frustrating and the worst part is it happens more often than we care to think about! At first the kitchen sink drains clog because of a build-up of the enemy called grease. These grease traps usually clog food particles, which eventually clogs the drain. When it comes to bathroom drains thats usually a different story. They are usually clogged by hair and soap. So, take some simple precautions to avoid this situation.

Tub Faucets
First make sure to shut off your water, both your main line and your water heater line. Our main line shut-off is located in our front yard near the wall and the water heater shut off is located at the water heater. The process of removing the faucet handle is straightforward. Open the faucet a but to relieve the pressure then use a screwdriver to pop-off the end cap which gives you access to a screw that holds the faucet handles in place.
